RESEARCH PROJECT

INPUT/OUTPUT

(PROJECT DESCRIPTION)

This capstone project explores the environmental impact of artificial intelligence, specifically the energy and water that power everyday AI tools. Through research, I looked into how data centers operate, what kinds of resources they use, and how those demands keep growing as AI becomes more integrated into daily life. The project includes a zine and a series of posters that visualize these hidden costs in a way that’s direct but approachable — encouraging people to notice what usually goes unseen. The interactive website turns that research into a simulated AI interaction. When someone types in a prompt, the site generates a printed “receipt” that shows the estimated energy, water, and compute time behind it. It’s designed to feel familiar at first, but slowly reveals the impact behind the convenience — prompting a moment of reflection on what’s happening behind the screen.
